Guiding Principles
Guiding principles of the Foundation were established, upon which grant evaluations would be based:

Promote programs that empower the marginalized, especially women and children, in particular those that address the root causes of poverty and focus on systemic change.

Endorse initiatives that advance health and wellness related education.

Act as responsible and just stewards of the charitable fund in conformity with the ethical and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.

Champion a broad vision of health that includes spiritual, emotional, physical, social, and economic well-being.

Encourage collaborative efforts.
Funds
Building Funds: Capital construction projects, equipment needs, and/or physical plant renovations

Care of the Indigent: Care of the Indigent

General: General purposes requested by not-for-profit organizations
​
Health, Wellness and Education: Support of educational, research and wellness programs
​
Medical Education: Medical educational programs and/or related materials
​
Nursing Education: Scholarships for nursing and related nursing educational needs
​
Behavioral Health: Psychiatric, mental health, mental retardation, and addiction services
​
St. Francis Community Fund: Health care related programs in the city of Pittsburgh
